"I first heard Freda King speak at a TCC event in 2014. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me think about my future as she talked about her past. I was then able to work with her as I transitioned to TCC. Freda and her family established a scholarship to honor her son Brandon King, a TCC student, who was killed in action during his service with the military. She continues to impress me with her ability to connect with each of the scholarship recipients, encouraging them to complete school – something that Brandon was not able to do. Freda is that rare jewel that, if you are lucky enough to come across, enriches your life. She is one of the best speakers I have ever heard – and it all comes from her heart. I have been lucky to get to know her and to work with her."
